Maharashtra becomes first state in India to provide free & cashless insurance cover to its people
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope announced that all citizens will be covered under the state government’s health scheme, and Maharashtra will be the first state to provide free and cashless insurance protection to its people.
- 85 per cent of the state’s population was covered under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) at present and the cover will be extended to the remining 15 per cent.

HDFC Bank releases song “#HumHaarNahiMaanenge”
To keep up hopes up amidst the ongoing national lockdown and coronavirus pandemic, HDFC Bank released a collaborative song titled #HumHaarNahiMaanenge (We will not lose).
- Composed by Oscar and Grammy Award-winning musician AR Rahman, with lyrics by Prasoon Joshi, the song is “a tribute to the indomitable spirit of India and millions of Indians who are standing together to fight the Covid-19 pandemic”.

Icra expects GDP to contract by 20% in June quarter, 2% fall in FY21
After the government announced graded relaxations in the lockdown, domestic rating agency Icra estimated that the country’s GDP might contract by as much as 20 per cent in the June quarter and is expected to overcome some lost ground in the remainder of the year but still close 2020-21 down by up to 2 per cent.
- The agency’s earlier economic forecast was a range, according to which the GDP may either expand by 1 per cent or contract by 1 per cent in 2020-21.
CAIT to launch national e-commerce marketplace ‘bharatmarket’ for retail traders
Traders’ body Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has announced to launch a national e-commerce marketplace ‘bharatmarket’ soon for all retail traders in collaboration with several technology partners.
- The marketplace will integrate capabilities of various technology companies to provide end-to-end services in the logistics and supply chains from manufacturers to end consumers, including deliveries at home.

Former World Snooker champion Peter Ebdon announces retirement
Former World Snooker Champion Peter Ebdon has retired from the sport as the result of an ongoing neck injury. Ebdon reached the summit of the game when he dispatched seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry at the Crucible.
- Peter Ebdon was the winner of 2002 World Snooker championship. He also ended as a runner up in the championship for the record two times in his professional career of. He also won the UK Championship in 2006.

Congress Leader Ramesh Datta passes away
Veteran Delhi Congress leader Ramesh Datta died at a hospital.
- Datta was also a social activist who worked relentlessly for the poor, said senior Delhi Congress leader Jitendra Kochar.He was deputy mayor of the city in 2006-07.
Nityotsava poet Nissar Ahmed Passes away
Noted Kannada poet and Padma Shri awardee, K S Nissar Ahmed died at the age of 84.
- Known as “Nityotsava Kavi” (Nityotsava poet) Ahmed, works include Nityotsava, Sanje Aidara Male, Nenedavara Manadalli, Naanemba Parakeeya, Manasu Gandhi Bazaru, Kurigalu Saar Kurigalu among others.
- He is a recipient of awards like Padma Shri, Rajyotsava, Pampa, Kannada Sahitaya Academy awards among several others.He was the chair of 73rd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Shivamogga, and had the pride of inaugurating the the 407th edition of Mysuru Dasara.

Every year since 1993, May 3 has been World Press Freedom Day, as recognized by the United Nations to spread awareness about the importance of Freedom of Press in functioning, information providing, its significance and to awaken the government of its duty to uphold and respect the right to freedom of expression.
- The theme of World Press Freedom Day 2020 is “Journalism without Fear or Favour”.
- A global campaign was launched by UNESCO on media and social media channels focussing on Journalism without Fear or Favour. On 4 -6 May 2020
